Wow!

Did all of that really just happen? It is still surreal that our students placed first! We had SO much fun this past week, but everyone learned a lot and worked very hard. I am anxious for them to put the final scores up so that we can see how the points worked out. I know that it was very close, and the other teams did a great job on their presentations. The ladies from Haughton were so poised and knowledgeable, and very nice and outgoing. The team from NCHS had some very creative posters, and did such a nice job. The Bossier team included so much information in so little time. Their videos were really cute as well. Huntington had a really cute song at the beginning of theirs, and their students had great stage presence. They were really funny! Parkway had this cute video that sortof parodied all of the crime dramas. It was cute, and must have taken forever to put together. As an educator, this week made me excited to see all of the students from all of the teams listening in class and working so hard on their projects. I think the whole week was a success!

Now we get to go take the big check and trophy to the school to give them to Dr. McCalla! Woot! Hopefully someone will post pictures of us with those somewhere!

Sweet Victory!

All of our hard work and late nights payed off! The entire team was soooo excited that we were even in the top 2! Winning 1st was just the icing on the cake! I don't think we really expected it at all but it's pretty awesome! Thanks to everyone for all your support and for reading about our camp experience, we all really appreciate it! I think I can speak for myself and everyone when I say that we truly had a fun time, learned a lot, and became a little family =) Love you guys!

Some Videos

Here are two videos. The first is the first-half of our team's presentation earlier today. The second is the out-takes from it.

I'll post a longer entry later after I've had a chance to catch up on some sleep. Enjoy the videos.

We won!

Somewhat unexpectedly, we got first place. The kids worked SO hard on the presentation. I'll post the video components for everyone to watch when we get back to Shreveport.

Shreve RuleZ

We did really well today. We handled the crime scene perfectly. We made a really big improvement over last night. I'm really confident in our team. And Lauren is totally hooked on Delaware. I'll supply her but morally I should think of cutting her off.......I'm not.

It's Calling my name..

Today was definitely better than yesterday. Our time spent with the crime scene was tiring, yet fun. We had a lot to do and I think we actually enjoyed it all. I can safely that we all feel comfortable with our performance so far in the camp. My concern is steadily growing, however. As we all know, Delaware Punch makes everything better, but I really hope its death grip over us maintains enough looseness to let us function properly for our remaining days here. Maybe it's calling your name as well...

But morally....

So today was pretty much beast! We got to do all sorts of cool stuff like examining the crime scene, collecting fingerprints and DNA, processing DNA, cryptology, and playing with some forensics equiptment! It was probably the best day yet! We worked great as a team and overall had a very successful day! And to make it even better the girls had a blast beating the boys at Cranium Pop 5! Oh and Delaware Punch needs its own rehab center (you know who you are!)

The great fountain

This comes from the great fountain mortals must be selected to drink this great drink.
I am the Wiz the one who showed it to man are you worthy enough to come drink with me.
Are you one of the chosen few who knows come to me o find out.
By the way i love you all
Drink With Me Drink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EHMAGAWD

Today was so funnn. We actually got to process the crime scene today. It was intense. We also learned about a bunch of Forensics equipment and more about Cryptology. We got to learn how you process and compare DNA or whatever you call it, and I was a total beast at it. IM AWESOME.

Delaware

Today was my favorite day so far. We got to go to a crime scene, solve hidden messages, and learn about tools that help solve cases. We even got to go play with DNA and pet cats. I had Delaware Punch for the first time, it was intense.

I study Yamagraphy.

The team made good progress today. We even managed to take some time to relax with a Game of Cranium: Pop 5. Unfortunately, the Girls bested the Boys with a pretty epic come-from-behind effort.

Today was much lower stress overall. Looking forward to putting the finishing touches on our presentation tomorrow.

Follow Our Progress!

You can track our scores as they post them! Here's the link!

As of when I post this, Team Gator is in first place, but much of what we've turned in has not been graded and we have much work left to be done! Keep wishing us luck! We've been working hard!

Thursday afternoon

Right now, the kids are about to start a cryptography exercise.

We spent the morning doing our mock crime scene and learning about forensic technology. We had some extra time at lunch, so we stopped by the Scholars' College so the kids could pick up some literature.

Big Day!

Today is a big day at Cyber Camp. So far today we have had some free time (we talked about the spring musical mostly, and reviewed crime scene procedures.) Then the students processed the crime scene. They did an awesome job making the diagram, connecting DNA evidence, and lifting fingerprints. Next we learned about different types of technologies used at crime scenes. My favorite was the fancy camera that lets them see prints, fluids, etc. in the daylight! But, it could burn your eyes so you have to be careful using it. After a yummy lunch (chicken nuggets!) we went to visit the Scholars College (which needs an apostrophe, but that button will not work on my keyboard right now. No contractions for me!) and got recruiting packets for the students. Right now the students are doing a cryptology exercise, so I took advantage of the opportunity to blog! Up next is stegnography, and then DNA. We just got to meet the Assistant Director of the Cyber Innovation Center. They are the people who helped set up this program. Tonight, the head of the nursing department at NSU is coming to eat dinner with one of our students who is interested in nursing. I will let you know how the rest of the day goes later. Hopefully the students will have more time to blog later, as well!

We're meddling kids!

Today has been sooo crazy! It's like the day that never ends. We got to do our first quiz bowl and we did awesome! Then we did some GPS work on our case, trying to pinpoint specific locations, which was sooo tiring (my feetsies hurt). Kei and I did some snooping around and interviewing! Then we watched this crazy intense movie that was flippin cool! And we've been working the last 5 hours on all of our homework! I'm fairly exhausted, but overall it was a really great day!
So, the team informs me that we are not sure we came in second in the quiz bowl this morning. We might have come in first! We are still waiting for them to put the scores online so we can find out how we did, but we may be doing better than I thought! Now it is time to work hard. We have a ton of homework to get through tonight! Wish us luck!

And so it goes

Poor EDGE reception in Natchitoches has kept me from updating today.

We've kept busy. Slight bump in the road this afternoon as we found out that we'd somehow missed part of today's assignment. But it looks like it will be easy to catch up tonight during team time.

Right now we're watching a movie for which there will be a homework assignment tonight.

I got a little sun today, so I'm really wishing there was time for a nap.

Day Two :)

Today has been really great so far, we started off with the quiz bowl and did well. Then we got information about a crime and got to go around the campus with a GPS looking for locations. Our team found all the locations and got along with each other. Hopefully we will have a good rest of the day and learn more about our case!

Day Twoooo

Did alot of GPS work finding precise latitude and longitude coordinate locations. THE SUN BURNS.

Hot Hot Hot!

Today has been a fun day. We're taking some time now to type up reports. So far today we've gone all over campus to find clues, and we've interviewed people to find out about possible suspects. The team rocked the Quiz Bowl (second place!) and held it together through some trying times with the GPS. We stopped by to visit my friend Harriette to borrow some sunscreen. We're only half-way through our day! I'm looking forward to the movie activity!

Wednesday Morning

The guys, surprisingly, aren't dragging around in getting up this morning (except maybe Daryl).

While yesterday was a little mind-numbing with lectures all day long, today promises to be a little more hands-on.

I'll post brief updates throughout the day from my phone.

Go Deleware

So I forced myself to stay awake and I was victorious! It was all worth it because I got to experience the amazing taste of Delaware ......so yah.

ZOMG CYBERENSICS

Today was super long and took forever to learn a whooooole bunch of stuff about processing crime scenes, cyber crimes, and GPS. Ummmmm, the food is GREAT. Kthnxbye :)
Today at camp, I learned a lot about the proper way to solve crimes. It was also really cool to learn about all the crimes that can happen through technology. I loved bonding with my team and learning what a cat bugler is.

Nerd camp

It took me like twenty minutes to create a blog. I love these nerds and this awesome punch and the horses. hahahahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahaahha hahahahahahahahahaahaha haha

1st Day in Cyber Camp

Today was very sluggishly informational. We learned a lot of new things that I had no idea about, but it felt as though it took forever to do so. I was forced to throw away my nachos for lunch today because there was entirely too much stuff on them. It was quite overwhelming, though tasty. Swimming was pretty fun today, and studying along with a game of Apples to Apples ended the night. It wasn't bad for the first day here.

Day 2 of Cyber Camp!

As day two is winding down our little brains are feeling rather exhausted! We had such a busy day full of crazy cool stuff! Although it felt really long, today has been a blast. I think we all really enjoyed the speakers and got some great info from all of them! The pool party was also surprisingly really fun! Not only did we get to meet other teams, but we bonded as a team. I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the week, hopefully I will get some more sleep tonight! Well goodnight out there =D

Fun Day at Camp!

Cyber Camp is going great! We had a fun time at the swim party and we're going to go study hard now! Today I enjoyed the GPS session most.

Why a Blog?

In short, because it seemed like a good idea. One of today's sessions involved blogging, and we were encouraged to set up a blog for friends and family to read to follow the happenings at Cyber Forensics Camp.

I won't go into many details--I'll let the kids do that later tonight. Expect updates as the evening progresses from each of the students.

In a few minutes, we're going to have "team time." Tonight we plan to talk a bit a bout what we learned today and maybe even play a game if we feel like we have time.

Cyber Camp is Go!

Welcome to the Captain Shreve Cyber Camp blog!

More posts forthcoming.
